How to Strive for 10x Leadership?
Empathy: The Cornerstone of Effective Leadership
Leaders who prioritize empathy create a culture of understanding, collaboration, and trust. Understanding the unique challenges team members face, both professionally and personally, empowers leaders to provide the right support. An empathetic leader listens actively, acknowledges feelings, and offers guidance without judgment. This fosters a sense of belonging and encourages team members to bring their whole selves to work.
I recently read the book “Hit Refresh: The Big Shift in Leadership and Innovation” by Satya Nadella. At first, I thought it would mostly be about his amazing achievements and the tech company he runs. But while reading the middle part of the book, I was surprised to find that it’s mostly about empathy. This made me emotional, and I even had tears in my eyes. I realized that Satya Nadella’s success is linked to how much he values empathy and here is an article I have written on “Hit Refresh“.
Respect and Mutual Benefit: Building Strong Foundations
Respect is a two-way street. Great leaders treat their team members with the same respect they expect in return. This respect extends to recognizing and valuing diverse perspectives, ideas, and experiences. A leader who values mutual benefit seeks outcomes that are advantageous for everyone involved. By fostering an environment of fairness and collaboration, leaders can encourage creative problem-solving and innovative thinking.

Win-Win Mindset: Forging Sustainable Success
Gone are the days when leadership was centered around a top-down approach. A true leader champions a win-win mindset, where success is not achieved at the expense of others. Instead, it is a shared victory that benefits all stakeholders. Such leaders strive to find solutions that satisfy both the organization’s goals and the personal aspirations of their team members.
This is what my friends leader told him, “We’re like a family and we’ll always have each other’s backs.” I was surprised to hear this from someone in that position. I just wish that leaders wouldn’t only focus on their own achievements and believe everything is perfect. Just because they’re in a good place doesn’t mean their team members are too. I wish leaders would think about creating situations where everyone wins. Whether it’s paycheck, chances to grow, or learning opportunities, they should give back to the people who work hard for them.
Collective Growth: Nurturing Talent and Potential
An extraordinary leader recognizes that their team’s growth is a reflection of their leadership. They invest in the development of their team members’ skills, competencies, and leadership qualities. This dedication to growth creates a pipeline of capable leaders who can take the organization to new heights. Leaders who foster collective growth encourage continuous learning, skill development, and mentorship opportunities.
A few years ago, I began to lead a team of members who aren’t fluent in English and struggle to communicate even basic words in english. During my free time, with help from my team lead, we organized regular meetings to talk with them and held English learning sessions. Now, looking ahead 1.5 years, I’m thrilled to notice that some of these members speak confidently. Witnessing their progress makes me really proud. This example demonstrates how much can transform when you aim to cultivate shared growth and nurture talent. I see they are able to engage better at work.
Communication: The Glue that Binds
Clear and effective communication is a cornerstone of successful leadership. Leaders must communicate openly and transparently, ensuring that goals, expectations, and feedback are understood by all. Regular communication promotes unity, aligns efforts, and minimizes misunderstandings. Moreover, a leader’s willingness to listen actively and respond thoughtfully demonstrates their commitment to the team’s success.

Leading by Example: Walking the Talk
Being 10 times better doesn’t mean being infallible. It means leading by example, admitting mistakes, and taking ownership of actions. When leaders demonstrate accountability and resilience, they inspire their team members to do the same. This authenticity builds trust and encourages an environment where learning from failures is just as important as celebrating successes.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the concept of being 10 times better as a leader transcends mere expertise. It encompasses empathy, respect, mutual benefit, a win-win mindset, and collective growth. Leaders who embody these qualities create an environment where innovation thrives, collaboration flourishes, and individuals are empowered to reach their full potential. As we navigate the complexities of the modern workplace, let us remember that leadership is not about being 10 times more knowledgeable, but about being 10 times more impactful.
