Wish You all a Very Happy Women’s Day
To the woman who has always motivated me and believed in me, wishing you Happy Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the achievements of women around the world. While we do the usual celebration along with cake and flowers.
Let us also acknowledge the crucial role women play in solving the most pressing challenges.
Why is gender equality critical?
- Diversity fuels innovation: According to McKinsey & Company, companies with greater gender diversity are 21% more likely to outperform their peers. Including women brings a wider range of perspectives to the table, leading to more creative solutions.
- Women excel in leadership: Research by Catalyst reveals that companies with more women in leadership positions have higher return on equity (ROE). Women leaders often demonstrate strong communication, empathy, and collaboration skills, fostering a positive work environment. Being part of a management team and I have truly witnessed how my dearest women employees are passionate about what they do.
- Women address societal needs: The World Economic Forum reports that closing the gender gap in the workforce could add $2.8 trillion to global GDP by 2025. Women are more likely to invest in areas like education and healthcare, benefiting society as a whole.
Here’s how women are making a difference
- Science and Technology: Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, a viral immunologist, played a vital role in developing the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
- Climate Action: Vanessa Nakate, a Ugandan climate activist, is mobilizing youth around the world to demand climate justice.
- Entrepreneurship: Whitney Wolfe Herd, founder of Bumble, is a champion for women in business, disrupting the traditional dating app landscape.
These are just a few examples. Women are leading the charge in fields as diverse as healthcare, engineering, education, and politics.
Not to forget the great women around me (us) in our lives today, without them I dont know what we might be doing!
Leading the Way
While the earlier mentioned pointers highlights the importance of women in tackling global challenges. Here is how I would like to connect their hardwork in our field of business operations and project management:
- Diversity of Thought in Problem-Solving: Business operations and project management often involve complex problem-solving. Including women on teams brings a wider range of perspectives to the table. Women excel at collaborative approaches, fostering communication and considering diverse viewpoints. This can lead to more creative and effective solutions for optimizing processes or managing projects.
- Strong Communication and Relationship Management: Effective communication and relationship management are crucial for success in both business operations and project management. Research suggests that women often excel in these areas. They can build trust and rapport with stakeholders, negotiate effectively, and clearly communicate project goals and expectations.
- Focus on Efficiency and Risk Management: Studies show that women tend to be detail-oriented and focused on efficiency. This translates well to business operations, where streamlining processes and reducing waste is key. In project management, women can contribute significantly to risk management by anticipating potential roadblocks and developing mitigation strategies.
Women Leading in Business
- Supply Chain Management: Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, is a leader in the automotive industry, known for her focus on innovation and efficiency within the company’s complex supply chain.
Breaking Down Barriers
Despite the valuable contributions women can make, they are still underrepresented in leadership roles within business operations and project management.
Here’s what we can do:
- Mentorship and Sponsorship Programs: Connecting women with experienced mentors and sponsors can provide guidance and support, helping them navigate career advancement.
- Unconscious Bias Training: Implementing unconscious bias training within organizations can help identify and address biases that might hinder women’s opportunities.
- Work-Life Balance Initiatives: Offering flexible work arrangements and childcare support allows women to balance their careers with personal responsibilities, encouraging them to stay in the workforce.
Creating a more inclusive environment and promoting the achievements of women in business and management, we can unlock their full potential and create a more successful future for all.
International Women’s Day is a call to action. Let’s celebrate the achievements of women, break down barriers to equality, and empower them to continue solving the world’s biggest challenges.
Harnessing the full potential of women, we can create a brighter future for all. Happy Women’s Day
Once again, Wish You all a Very Happy Women’s Day
